The Book Assassins

Historical Thriller

Germany, 1780 ...

Amid the battle of enlightened minds, sects and criminal gangs, Nicolai Röschlaub, a young physician, is asked to examine a number of disturbing deaths. Meanwhile, mail coaches are being attacked and their contents – consignments of pirated books – burned. Could the phenomena be connected? Nicholai meets an enigmatic young woman who indicates that the explanation is more sinister than he’d suspected. Although initially sceptical, Nicholai falls in love with the woman and resolves to investigate. Before long he realizes that his only option is to flee: his knowledge as a physician will count for nothing in the face of what lies ahead.

A novel about the impulse to cure and to kill – about God, the devil and love. It brings to light a period of history of central importance to our times, which changed our world for ever.
